In Luke 3:15-38, three witnesses testify to the worthiness of Jesus. First, John the Baptist declares that he himself is not worthy, pointing instead to the One who is coming, who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Second, at Jesus’ baptism, the Father speaks from heaven and the Spirit descends, publicly affirming that Jesus is the beloved Son and fully approved to begin His ministry. Third, Luke records Jesus’ genealogy, tracing Him through David, back to Adam, and ultimately to God, showing that He alone is qualified in lineage, humanity, and divine sonship. Together, these scenes proclaim that Jesus is the only One worthy to fulfill the saving work God has ordained.
