Luke opens his Gospel by explaining why he has gathered eyewitness testimony and written an orderly account for Theophilus: so that he can know the certainty of what he has been taught about Jesus. This introduction directs us to the trustworthiness of God’s Word and the real life, death, and resurrection of Christ.
Knowing that the account is true calls for more than agreement with its facts. The good news invites us to repent of our sin, trust the Savior who died for us, and enter fellowship with God. Having received that grace, we are called to bear witness to Jesus in our words and lives.
