FROM THE WORD

Luke 5:27–32 | Jesus Calls Sinners to Repentance

April 12, 2026

Jesus approaches Levi at his tax booth and calls him to follow. Levi leaves everything, then gathers tax collectors and sinners for a feast with Jesus. The Pharisees grumble, but Jesus declares that He has come as a physician for the sick, calling sinners to repentance rather than affirming their self-righteousness.

We all need the mercy that Levi receives. Our own goodness cannot save us, and the righteousness expressed in a believer’s life belongs to Christ. Repentance turns us from ourselves to Him; then, like Levi, we are called to bring others into contact with Jesus and testify to His gracious work.
