At John’s birth, Zechariah obeys the word God has given, his tongue is loosed, and he praises the Lord. Filled with the Holy Spirit, he proclaims God’s promised salvation and the work his son will do to prepare the way. His attention turns from his own child to the coming Savior and God’s tender mercy.
We need more than outward religion or seasonal celebration: we need forgiveness for the sin that separates us from God. Jesus brings light into our darkness and leads us into peace. The call is to repent today, receive His mercy, and become people prepared to testify to the good news of Christ.
