In Luke 4:14–30, Jesus returns to Nazareth in the power of the Holy Spirit and reads Isaiah 61, declaring it fulfilled in their hearing. He announces good news to the poor, freedom for captives, sight for the blind, and the year of the Lord’s favor. At first, the synagogue speaks well of Him, but when they realize He is claiming to be the Messiah, their praise turns to rejection.
This passage warns of a familiar danger: being close to Jesus without truly submitting to Him. The call is not only to receive Him as Savior, but to yield to Him as King. The message presses us toward a life centered on one clear aim: Everything Jesus.
