In Luke 6:1–11, Jesus confronts a legalistic view of the Sabbath and reveals its true purpose. This sermon traces the Sabbath from creation, the law, and Israel’s covenant life to show that it was given as a gift of rest, worship, remembrance, and renewal with God. As Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus fulfills the law and frees his people from law-driven religion while still calling them to receive God’s gift of rest with faith, worship, compassion, and hope in the coming eternal rest.
