In Luke 7:36–50, a woman known as a sinner enters the home of Simon the Pharisee and kneels at Jesus’ feet in tears. Simon sees only her past, but Jesus sees a forgiven woman whose gratitude has become love.
Through the parable of two debtors, Jesus exposes the difference between self-satisfied religion and saving faith. We do not earn forgiveness by loving Jesus enough. We love Him because, by grace, He has canceled a debt we could never repay.
