In Luke 8:40–56, Jesus displays his authority, power, and compassion as he heals a woman who had suffered for twelve years and raises Jairus’s daughter from death. Both stories point beyond physical healing to the salvation Jesus gives through faith.
These encounters also expose the difference between outward religious appearance and genuine dependence on Christ. Jesus calls his people to live not in convenient Christianity, but with a deep desperation for him — trusting his grace, drawing near to him, and resting in his peace.
