In Luke 9:1–6, Jesus calls the Twelve, gives them power and authority, and sends them to proclaim the kingdom of God. They go without ordinary provisions, learning to depend on God as they preach the gospel and minister from village to village.
Jesus’ charge to the apostles points the church toward its continuing mission. Believers are not merely called to attend church but to be the church: ready in the gospel of peace, praying for boldness, and watching for the people God places before us so we can speak the good news of Christ.
