In Luke 9:7–9, Herod hears reports about Jesus and is perplexed. Guilty over killing John the Baptist, he wants to see Jesus—but he wants a spectacle, relief for his mind, and a way to contain the threat of another King.
Herod’s curiosity never becomes repentance. Jesus did not come merely to entertain us, calm our anxieties, or stay within boundaries we set. He gave Himself to bear our sin and give us His righteousness, calling us to want Him—not just what He can give—and to follow Him with heart, mind, and life.
