Peter gets the title right: Jesus is “the Christ of God.” But did the disciples understand what kind of Christ He would be?
In Luke 9:18–22, Jesus defines what it means for Him to be the Christ. He would not take the throne the way people expected. He would be rejected, suffer, die, and rise again. And that leaves each of us with the same question Jesus asked His disciples: Who do you say that I am?
Recognizing Jesus as the Christ also means recognizing our need for Him, allowing Him to define our sin, our salvation, and the way we live. Rather than reshaping Jesus to fit our expectations, we are called to daily repentance and submission to the King who gave Himself for us.
